The event starts/finishes at Coffman Park in Dublin, a suburb NW of Columbus.  Topography in Central Ohio is relatively flat, shaped by the great continental ice sheets.  Eastern Ohio is dominated by the Appalachian foothills and is quite hilly.

The 200 and 400-mile routes are roughly concentric loops in Central Ohio.  The 200-mile loop is centered on an area north and east of Columbus while the 400-mile loop circumnavigates the Columbus Metro Area.  They share the first 100 miles, from Dublin to Millersburg.  The NE portion of both loops travel through Amish country where riders will encounter horse and buggy traffic.

The 200-mile route is challenging – 207 miles with 8,730’ of climbing.  Riders warm-up on the flat to gently rolling farmland on the first portion of the course.  They encounter quite a few hills on the middle portion.  This is followed by a relatively flat run-in to the finish.

The 400-mile route is similarly challenging – 401 miles with 17,081’ of climbing.  The first portion of the course is flat to gently rolling.  The middle portion of the course is quite hilly with some challenging climbs.  The final portion of the course is gently rolling with a very flat run-in to the finish.

The Sugar Creek to Athens portion of the 400-mile route is one of the best stretches of road in all of domestic ultra-racing – 120 miles of smooth winding hilly road with little or no traffic.  Riders get to ride 80 miles of the RAAM route, from Athens to Greenfield, in reverse.  The 400-mile course is the only RQ in the NE part of the US.

Both the 200 and 400-mile courses are moderately difficult - ideally suited to advanced beginning to intermediate level ultra-racers.

The event is centrally located in the NE US, within a 1-day drive of two dozen major population areas, including Chicago, Detroit, St. Louis, Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, New York and Washington DC.
